Welcome to the New York Allergy & Sinus Centers. As a new patient, please plan to spend up to 1 hour in our office for the initial office visit. The doctor will review your medical history and perform a physical examination. After the exam, the following procedures will be performed: pulmonary function tests, allergy skin testing. Once the skin tests have been applied you, will be required to wait twenty (20) minutes. Then, the doctor will call you back into the office to interpret the test results. He will then determine whether you require additional testing using higher allergen concentrations.
Because certain medications can interfere with accurate testing, it is important to stop the following medications for 48-72 hours prior to you appointment:
ANTIHISTAMINES, such as Benadryl, Chlortrimetron, Allegra, Allegra-D, Zyrtec, Zyrtec-D, Claritin, or Clarinex
All nasal sprays, inhalers, and antibiotics will not affect your testing and can be taken up until your visit.
If you are unsure whether you are on a medication that could interfere with the allergy testing, don’t hesitate to call our office at least 3-4 days before your appointment. Do not stop any medications that are necessary to control life-threatening or severe medical conditions.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out the paper work. Alternatively, you may visit our website: www.NYCAllergy.com. There, you may fill out the paper work prior to your visit to help minimize your waiting time. Additionally, you may find it appropriate to ask your current physician’s assistance in completing some of the forms. If your insurance plan requires that you obtain referrals to see specialists, please ensure that your primary care physician submits one to our office prior to the date of your appointment. Referrals are to be faxed to (212)214-0831. If according to your insurance plan there is a co-payment associated with office visits, we ask for that to be paid at the time of your appointment.
The doctor and our staff have reserved this time only for you. Please avoid being late. Should you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, 24-hours notification is required.
